Australian Business Register’s ABN Lookup

The system uses the Australian Business Register’s Free ABN Lookup service to verify the ABN/ACN, registered name and other publicly available information of entities with an ACN or ABN. Company, partnership and trust type contacts (excluding super funds) can be verified using the Free ABN/ACN Lookup. Super funds can be verified using the Australian Tax Office’s Free Super Fund lookup.

Verifying contacts with an ABN or ACN

  1. Go to the contact’s contact detail page.
  2. In the Verification section Free ABN/ACN lookup module, click Verify with ABN/ACN lookup.
  3. The lookup will provide a verification status which is displayed in the module:
    • Existence verified.
    • Verification failed.
  4. The registered business name will also be returned by the lookup and displayed below the status.The full verification details returned by the lookup can be viewed by clicking the View full verification details link.

Supplying an ABN or ACN

You may need to supply an ABN or ACN before being able to verify using the lookup. To add an ABN:

  1. In the Identification details section of the contact detail page, click Edit.
  2. For the question Does this company/trust/partnership have an ABN/ACN? select Yes.
  3. Enter the ABN/ACN. At this point you can also run a free ABN lookup to fetch the registered trust name by clicking Fetch company/trust/partnership name.
  4. Click Save.
